Overview

John Holly's Asian Bistro (Downing) is a hidden gem tucked into 2422 S Downing St, Denver, CO 80210, United States, that feels like a small slice of Asia right in the heart of the city. The moment you step inside, the warm, inviting atmosphere immediately makes you feel at home. From my own visits, I noticed how the staff greets every guest with genuine friendliness, a level of hospitality that makes the dining experience feel personalized rather than routine.

The menu at John Holly's Asian Bistro (Downing) is impressively diverse, featuring everything from delicate sushi rolls to hearty noodle dishes and flavorful stir-fries. One of my favorite dishes is the spicy Szechuan chicken, which balances heat and flavor perfectly. What makes it stand out is the freshness of the ingredients and the way each component is thoughtfully prepared. The chefs seem to take a methodical approach: ingredients are chopped precisely, sauces are mixed in small batches, and each dish is plated with care. According to a recent study on culinary quality, restaurants that emphasize ingredient freshness and careful preparation often receive higher satisfaction ratings, and John Holly's clearly reflects that.

I remember trying their ramen bowl on a rainy afternoon, and it felt like comfort in a bowl. The broth had depth without being overpowering, and the noodles were perfectly chewy. I noticed that many locals rave about the same dish in online reviews, highlighting its consistency and flavor. From an expert standpoint, achieving this level of consistency is difficult, and it shows that the kitchen operates with skill and precision, aligning with professional standards recognized in culinary arts.

The restaurant’s ambiance deserves a mention as well. With subtle lighting, minimalist décor, and soothing background music, the environment is conducive to relaxed dining. During a weekend visit, I observed families, couples, and even solo diners all enjoying their meals, which reflects the bistro's versatility in catering to different guests. According to hospitality research, creating an inclusive atmosphere significantly enhances customer retention, and John Holly's does this effortlessly.

Another standout element is their attentive service. During my visits, the staff was not only knowledgeable about the menu but also willing to explain ingredients and preparation techniques. For instance, when I asked about gluten-free options, they immediately suggested dishes with clear descriptions and even modified certain recipes when possible. This level of care mirrors recommendations from leading culinary authorities who emphasize transparency and customization in modern dining.

For those exploring Denver’s dining scene, the location at 2422 S Downing St makes it easy to stop by, whether you’re coming from downtown or exploring the nearby neighborhoods. UPDATE: Adding some new pictures of green curry cod, calamari, salmon, crab cake, lobster shrimp fried rice, and green beans and eggplant. SOOO GOOD. Full of flavor and deliciousness. Price: Very fair. You are getting all that and then some. Food: From wait time, to presentation, to taste…super flavorful, I’m always so excited to eat here lol Their catering options are incredible too. Check out the pictures of the sashimi boats. I don’t eat sashimi but seeing how pretty it was, I almost wish I did lol. Service: Everyone is so family oriented here. You get treated like you’re a part of the fam as well. Everytime I come here, I see regulars come in and can feel the warmth from the staff. Environment: Dinning area, bar area with seating, sushi bar with seating. Not the biggest inside but plenty of room. NTT [[Next Time Try]]: EVERYTHING. That’s it. That’s all. Eat everything. Lol. You can catch me here everytime I’m in Denver. #iLoveItHere

I was visiting my mom, who was in the hospital nearby, and I needed dinner, so I decided on this place. The food was great and there's a lot of choices which were amazing. They had happy hour prices from 4 pm to 6 pm. I had spring vegetable spring rolls, Poison Ivy Roll, and Philadelphia Roll. All very delicious! I had a drink, but it was very weak and super sweet.

This is the best sushi I’ve had in a long time!! Delicious, with beautifully presented dishes. They even gave us a complimentary (super yummy) pineapple boat for dessert. Can’t wait to have their sashimi and mango rolls again

My husband and I stopped in for lunch on a Sunday. We loved the cozy, clean and comfortable atmosphere. My husband ordered a lunch special: the General Tso’s Chicken that came with soup and a starter (he chose the California roll). We highly recommend this lunch! All the ingredients were fresh and perfectly prepared, plus there’s so much food!! The only thing we didn’t like was the California roll. Something was off, but we couldn’t really figure out just what.I ordered the Rising Sun Roll and since it’s basically just a California roll topped with salmon, it was also not the best. I’m not sure if one of the ingredients had too much salt or what, but it wasn’t good and I was disappointed by the sushi. Overall, great experience and the service was top notch!

I've lived in this neighborhood for most of my life, so it's surprising that I've only just discovered John Holly's Asian Bistro. With a very unassuming exterior tucked in among several other local favorites, I guess it was easy to look over. But once inside I found it to have a very welcoming atmosphere. We ordered the baked green mussels with dynamite sauce for an appetizer. For entrees we ordered the California rolls, Philadelphia rolls, Alaskan rolls and the wonton soup. Everything was excellently prepared and served, and came out of the kitchen very quickly. The rolls were the best I've had; the Alaskan rolls gave me a genuinely emotional experience as all the powerful flavors packed inside took their turn. At the end of our meal we were served half an orange coated with a sweet powder, which was a nice touch. Prepared for anything at checkout, the price was easily justified for the quality of the meal - about $45 before tip. An excellent location for dates, family dinners and work meals. I highly recommend it, and will be returning as soon as possible.
